Compost bin for Rev-A-Shelf RV-35 & RV-50 pull-out trash cans
CompostFit was designed around one family of trash cans — the Rev-A-Shelf RV-35 and RV-50 found in pull-out cabinets across North America. Here's how to tell, in about ten seconds, whether you have one.
Updated October 7, 2026 · By the CompostFit team, San DiegoThe short answer: pull your trash can out of the cabinet and look at the center of its underside. If it reads Part No. RV-35 (35 Qt) or Part No. RV-50 (50 Qt), CompostFit fits. If it says anything else, it doesn't fit yet.
How to check your trash can
- Pull the can out. Open your pull-out trash cabinet and lift the trash can off its frame.
- Empty it and tip it over. Take out the bag and turn the can upside down so you can see the bottom.
- Read the part number. Look at the center of the underside. Rev-A-Shelf moulds the part number into the plastic. Part No. RV-35 or Part No. RV-50 means CompostFit fits.
Why the RV-35 and RV-50
Rev-A-Shelf's RV-35 and RV-50 are two of the most widely installed pull-out trash cans in North American kitchens — the plain plastic cans that sit in a wire or wood frame and slide out of a base cabinet on a track. Because so many kitchens already have them, CompostFit is shaped to their exact rim and depth: the rim rests on the edge of the can, the bin reaches toward its floor, and the trash bag tucks under the rim and is held by built-in teeth.
If your trash can slides out of a cabinet on a track, there's a good chance it's one of these two. The part number is the only way to be sure.
How CompostFit sits in the can
CompostFit takes up about one third of the trash can. Your trash bag lines the remaining two thirds and is held in place by the teeth under CompostFit's rim, so the compost and trash stay separated and the bag can't slip.

If you have a different trash can
CompostFit doesn't fit other trash can models yet — including other brands and other Rev-A-Shelf part numbers. Our team is working on more sizes. Request your trash can with a photo and a link to where it's sold, and we'll let you know when a model fits it; every request helps us decide which model to build next.
FAQ
Which Rev-A-Shelf trash cans does CompostFit fit?
CompostFit fits the Rev-A-Shelf RV-35 (35 Qt) and RV-50 (50 Qt) pull-out trash cans. It does not currently fit other models.
Where is the part number on a Rev-A-Shelf trash can?
It is moulded into the center of the can's underside and reads "Part No. RV-35" or "Part No. RV-50". Pull the can out of the cabinet, empty it and tip it over to read it.
My pull-out has two trash cans. Does CompostFit still work?
Yes, as long as the can you put it in is an RV-35 or RV-50. Check the part number on the bottom of each can. Many households put CompostFit in the trash can and keep the second can for recycling.
My trash can isn't an RV-35 or RV-50. What can I do?
CompostFit doesn't fit other trash cans yet. More sizes are in development — email hello@compostfit.com with the subject "Interest List - Upcoming Models" and the part number from your can, and we'll let you know when a model fits it.
Can I return CompostFit if it doesn't fit?
Yes. CompostFit can be returned within 30 days of delivery in clean, resalable condition once the return is authorized by email. See the refund and return policy for details.
